There are five locations in Vienna. Four restaurants have applied for the opening of insolvency proceedings at the Vienna Commercial Court, as reported by the creditor protection association KSV 1870. A total of 47 employees are affected. The liabilities are between 150,000 and 720,000 euros. Crowdfunding has played a role.
Some of the restaurants of the Habibi & Hawara Group were launched in 2016 after the refugee crisis in 2015. War refugees and people in difficult personal situations are primarily employed in the restaurants.
According to the debtor, the four restaurants cannot continue to operate or be renovated, as reported by KSV 1870. Bankruptcy proceedings were applied for at three companies, and at one a reorganization process without self-administration with a 20 percent quota within two years. For the fifth restaurant, a reorganization process without self-administration is to be applied for, it is ultimately to be continued.
According to the creditor protection association AKV, the entire group employs 67 people. Wage arrears are said to have existed since December 2022.
The slide into insolvency is attributed to the corona crisis and the slump in sales in the restaurant business in autumn/winter 2022 due to the wave of inflation and the associated payment delays. Then there are the high energy costs.
According to the creditor protection association Creditreform, the liabilities in the entire group amount to around 2.27 million euros.
