The protest against the cancellation of the Railjet stops in St. Valentin and Amstetten from the end of December this year is gaining momentum. As reported, in the future only the western railway will stop with its trains at the two stations on the western route from Vienna to Linz, but the ÖBB express connections will only stop in Linz or St. Plölten. More than 5,000 people have already signed the corresponding petition of the SP district organization Amstetten against the plans of the Ministry of Transport, which have not yet been fixed. Steyr’s Mayor Markus Vogl and St. Valentin’s Mayor Kerstin Suchan-Mayr (both SP) also work together to ensure that the ÖBB Railjets continue to stop in the region.
“St. Valentin station must remain a major hub in rail traffic,” says Vogl. The mayor of Steyr sees the project as “a devaluation of the train station, which is important for the entire region, because it would eliminate the direct connection to Vienna-Schwechat Airport”.
“We made sure there was a good park-and-ride system and then a plan like this came up,” says Suchan-Mayr train passengers, travelers and for commuters.”
