The r Vialli was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2017, and the disease returned last year. Baggio, who won 60 caps for Italy, spoke about the former goalscorer’s untimely death in an interview with TV7.
“He left us much too early,” said Baggio, adding: “There has always been doping. The aim was to find out whether certain substances cause damage over time. I’m scared because far too many footballers get caught. More research should be done on the substances we were using back then.” Baggio played with Vialli at Juventus. “I’m worried, I admit that. A lot of deaths, all young people, that’s not normal.”
Today’s TV commentator Massimo Brambati spoke of similar experiences. “I’m scared too. I used to take micors before games like they were candy. “It wasn’t banned back then.” Nowadays, taking Micoren falls under doping, the drug leads to a higher oxygen content in the blood.
Vialli isn’t the only ex-footballer to succumb to cancer recently. Sinisa Mihajlovic died of leukemia on December 16, 2022 at the age of 53.
