The event happened two days after the so-called “taking of Lima”where protesters from different parts of the country flocked to the Peruvian capital to march against President Boluarte, who succeeded Pedro Castillo due to his impeachment by Congress.
The coordinator of the crime prevention team of the Prosecutor’s Office, Alfonso Barrenechea, gave details about the mass detention: “The information that has been sent by the police to the Public Ministry is that they have acted in flagrante in two events: an entry into the university campus without authorization from the authorities and an alleged theft of a series of electronic goods“.
As reported from the university, the protesters they entered the institution with their faces covered and ejected security personnel after taking their vests and equipment.

President Dina Boluarte would have thought about resigning
According to information provided by the newspaper La República, the president Dina Boluarte would have considered resigning twice in December due to the start of the protests and repressionbut Prime Minister Alberto Otárola convinced her to stay.
Otarola would have convinced her to give up her resignation because, if it materialized, they would all end up in court and maybe in prison.
Among the promises that the prime minister would have made to the president, La República pointed out “strong support from the right-wing parties and the Armed Forces”.
