Wels got revenge against Oberwart Gunners

“My compliments to my team! To be eleven points behind four minutes before the end and then to win, especially here in Oberwart, is an enormous achievement,” said Sebastian Waser, coach of the Welser Flyers, after the game. This is another important step to stay in the top six in the basketball league.

The excitement of the live game could hardly be surpassed and fulfilled all the expectations of the fans who had traveled with them. The initial phase was relatively balanced, but the home team, the Oberwart Gunners, led by a narrow margin of 21:19 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the team of captain Christian von Fintel managed to turn the game around and Wels went into the break with 39:37 thanks to some strong three-pointer throws.

The third quarter was balanced again and Oberwart came back. It only got really exciting in the last quarter. Thanks to many fouls by Welser and a strong Hanes, the Gunners continued to pull away to 71:60. In literally the last second, Elvir converted the important three and saved Wels in overtime.

Von Fintel was excluded

Within just a few minutes, the Waser team had made up an eleven-point deficit. The momentum was now clearly on the side of the Welser, even if captain von Fintel was ruled out after his fifth personal foul. Chase Jeter and Araydas Gydra then made the decision to win 91-88.
