Mühlviertel Volleys wide awake despite a long break

Mühlviertel Volleys wide awake despite a long break

The Mühlviertel Volleys players had a full four-week break from matches since their last league appearance in December. A time that was used for some intensive training sessions from the New Year and for winning the tournament at the ASKÖ state championships in Freistadt.

At the weekend, in front of their home crowd, they returned to the spotlight of the second Bundesliga, in which the Mühlviertel Volleys had worked their way up to third place in the autumn after a mixed start to the season. With the Vorarlberg teams VC Raiffeisen Dornbirn and blum VBC Höchst, none other than the two table leaders were guests. In the first course of this volleyball gourmet menu, the Pergerinnen awaited the team from Dornbirn in the Donauwell Arena on Saturday. And from the very first point, the girls around captain Melanie Steiner showed great power volleyball. With their best performance so far this season, the Mühlviertlerinnen convinced in all elements and unexpectedly won the game against the previous table leaders with 3:0 (25:20, 25:20, 25:22).

The Perger team wanted to start in exactly the same way against blum VBC Höchst on Sunday. Unfortunately, coach Lydia Trauner’s team couldn’t quite match the level of the day before. This match deservedly went 3:1 (25:23, 18:25, 25:16, 28:26) to the women from Vorarlberg, who also took the lead in the table.

“The performance shown by the entire team on Saturday showed once again how the team can play. It was such a pleasure to watch the girls win. Maybe we all wanted that to be repeated on Sunday too much,” revealed Pergs Sporting director Josef Trauner was very happy with his team after the opening weekend and also congratulated the opponents from Höchst on a flawless performance: “They absolutely deserved to win the game. Many thanks also to our great home crowd, who gave us great support, especially on Saturday.”

The next home game will follow on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. against ATSC Kelag Wildcats Klagenfurt/2 (seventh place) in the Donauwell Arena Perg.
