In the already tense traffic situation in the south of Linz, the signs point to aggravation in the summer.
As was announced last week, ÖBB switch work on the western route between St. Valentin and Linz will also begin at the end of August – while the heavily frequented Mona Lisa tunnel is still closed. These result in massive restrictions in local transport and train cancellations (we reported).
The Linz Greens have criticized the fact that construction sites were in operation for a total of eight days in both the Mona Lisa tunnel and on the train route, which is important for commuters. “This lack of coordination only triggers shaking of the head,” says club chairman Helge Langer. Vice Mayor Martin Hajart (VP), who is responsible for traffic, and those responsible for ÖBB would have to quickly find a reasonable solution for commuters: “Mutual blaming doesn’t help anyone.”
Hajart refers to ongoing talks with ÖBB. The aim is to find a common solution. According to the ÖBB, it is not possible to move the construction site on the western route.
