Accident driver got car back and ended up in jail

The Czech police had followed the car with Austrian license plates across the border to the Mühlviertel on Monday night because the driver ignored several attempts to stop due to massive speeding.
The 30-year-old from Salzburg’s Pongau then fled on foot from the officials after an accident in Bad Leonfelden, but fell into a pond. He made it to shore under his own power and tried to hide behind a hut, but was tracked down by a service dog patrol.

He resisted briefly and was provisionally arrested, according to a police spokeswoman. The man drove without a valid driver’s license and refused a drug test. The Pongauer was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and hypothermia. From there he disappeared without signing off.

When the police wanted to give the man his vehicle back yesterday afternoon, the handcuffs clicked. At the handover, police found 20 grams of a crystalline substance (believed to be crystal meth) in his car. After consultation with the Linz public prosecutor’s office, the accused was transferred to the Linz prison.
