Yesterday, the epic moved up to number four on the list of the world’s highest-grossing films, according to figures from Boxofficemojo.com with current box office receipts of $2.07 billion.
The movies “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Star Wars Episode VII” left Cameron behind with that. The most successful feature film to date is the first “avatar”-Teil (2009) grossing a total of $2.92 billion. Behind “Avengers: Endgame” (2019/2.79 billion dollars) is Cameron’s “titanic” ($2.194 billion) from 1997 ranked third.
That’s three of the top four spots in blockbuster history for a single man who makes a film once in a blue moon. And the prognosis that “Avatar: The Way of Water” will advance even further in the number of viewers is no longer risky since this weekend at the latest.
