The area in Schörfling on which ÖBB could provide additional public access to the lake at Lake Attersee is 6,600 square meters in size. As the OÖN reported, bathers are currently “tolerated” there, but it is not a public bathing area. Discussions between the market town of Schörfling under Mayor Gerhard Gründl (SP) have been going on for some time, but so far without a result.
“Now it’s up to Stefan Kaineder, Green Party Councilor,” says VP State Manager Florian Hiegelsberger. “I expect that he will work with his party colleague – the responsible minister Leonore Gewessler – for the fastest and uncomplicated opening of the ÖBB lake access in Schörfling.” The fact that it is unclear who can acquire the area is no reason for a delay. “In a first step, ÖBB can easily open access to the lake for the public. This will show how serious the Greens are about free access to the lake,” says Hiegelsberger.
“Complicated Matter”
Upper Austria’s Greens have been vehemently pushing for an expansion of public access to Upper Austria’s bathing waters for years. In Schörfling, however, the “thing” was “complicated,” admitted Rudolf Hemetsberger, a member of the Greens’ state parliament. By the time of going to press yesterday, there was no comment from Green leader Kaineder.
“We’re not just talking, we’re constantly expanding what’s on offer,” said Hiegelsberger. He names two bank sections of the Federal Forests (ÖBf) in Kammer (Schörfling municipality) and Seeleiten (Weyregg municipality), for which the state has taken on the care and maintenance and is expanding the infrastructure for bathers, or the expansion of public access to the lake in Unterbuchberg (municipality Seewalchen).
