1.1 million kilowatt hours – as much as the energy consumption of 440 average single-family houses – is said to be the annual generation volume of the photovoltaic systems on the roofs of the ÖAMTC bases. The electricity produced from solar energy is to be used mainly for the company’s own needs and for heating and cooling. The renewable energy source is also used for the charging stations for e-cars.
Around half of the self-consumption is to be covered by the systems, which will be completed in May 2023. At the state headquarters in Linz, where the systems have already been installed, as in Grieskirchen, Bad Ischl and Freistadt, the company’s own requirements are covered almost 100 percent by the solar energy it produces itself. The rest will be fed into the local power grid, said ÖAMTC country director Harald Großbauer at the presentation of the project.
Increase in Upper Austria
State energy councilor Markus Achleitner (VP) spoke of an exemplary initiative. The state of Upper Austria funded around 80,000 euros, the ÖAMTC invested a total of 1.8 million euros. At the end of 2022 there were more than 75,000 PV systems in Upper Austria, more than doubling compared to 2018, when 30,000 systems were counted.
The PV offensive also has positive effects on electromobility, said Achleitner. 17 percent of all passenger car registrations in Upper Austria in the previous year (36,793) were for electric cars, which means second place behind Vienna in a comparison of the federal states.
