Kate Winslet and Hugh Grant are in Vienna

Austria’s federal capital has been the scene of a large series production since Monday. According to media reports, the HBO series “The Palace” with Kate Winslet and Hugh Grant will be filmed in the Liechtenstein Garden Palace in Vienna’s 9th district until February 2nd. Where the approximately 200-strong film crew will then move to is still a secret. But the entourage stays in Vienna, revealed Marijana Stoisits, Managing Director of the Vienna Film Commission, to the “Kurier”.

“Several weeks of shooting here, that’s very remarkable. And for Vienna as a film location and for the film industry based here, it’s really a great story,” says Stoisits. The decisive factor in the series being filmed in Austria as well as in England is the film incentive model that came into force on January 1st.

It is not yet known when “The Palace” will appear. At the center of the plot is an authoritarian regime and how it begins to dissolve within a year. Showrunner and writer is Will Tracy (“Succession”), directed by Stephen Frears (“High Fidelity”).
