Linz. The social markets in Upper Austria, where people with low incomes can shop at greatly reduced prices, are also struggling with the price increases for groceries. That’s why the state government yesterday decided on a one-time subsidy of 400,000 euros on the initiative of Social Affairs Councilor Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer. It benefits the facilities of the Red Cross, Volkshilfe and other non-profit organizations.
“The social markets are an important contact point for people with low incomes to be able to buy goods cheaply,” says Governor Thomas Stelzer (VP). “Our Upper Austrian support package for the social markets is a solidarity between the population, business and the public sector. Because everyone has a responsibility towards our population,” says Social Provincial Councilor Wolfgang Hattmansdorfer.
In addition, the Schärdinger dairy and the Raiffeisenlandesbank Oberösterreich support goods worth 400,000 euros through holdings in the food industry (Efko, Salinen Austria). In addition, the state wants to initiate goods collection campaigns throughout the state together with Spar.
