Macron did not rule out sending fighter jets to kyiv

In an appearance in The Hague, where he is visiting, Macron listed the “criteria” to be taken into account before making any decision: that Ukraine formulate “a request”, that this does not lend itself to escalation, and that the target does not be “to reach Russian soil but to help the resistance effort”.

“By definition, nothing is ruled out,” added the president.who specified that the Ukrainians “to this day have not made that request.”

“Based on these three criteria, we will continue to examine the deliveries of military equipment on a case-by-case basis,” emphasized Macron, who raised the same conditions before deciding on the eventual shipment to the Volodymyr Zelensky’s government of French-made Leclerc tanks.

Macron recalled that the Ukrainian Defense Minister, Oleksii Reznikov, will be in Paris this Tuesday to meet with his French counterpart, Sébastien Lecornu.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte stressed for his part that “there are no taboos, but it would be a big step” if combat aircraft were delivered to kyiv.

The Netherlands has not yet received an order from kyiv either. in this sense, said Rutte, who agreed with the criteria listed by the French president.

After many days of hesitation, Berlin last week authorized the shipment to Ukraine of 14 German-made Leopard 2 tanks, and to allow other European countries to supply these tanks to kyiv.

Germany, on the other hand, will not send combat planes to Ukraine, the head of government, Olaf Scholz, said on Sunday.
