A house that survived a volcano
Excavation work carried out between 1894 and early 1896 showed that the house, built on the ruins of another home, unusually survived volcano eruption.
Gabriel Zuchtriegel, director of the Archaeological Park of Pompeiiexplained the role of slaves in the history of the house: “The owners, freedmen and former slaves, are the expression of a social mobility that would have been unthinkable two centuries earlier.”
“We are looking here the last phase of Pompeian wall paintingwith incredible details, so that you can stay in front of these images for hours and continue discovering new details”, he added about the inauguration in statements with The Associated Press.
The director of the initiative marks the most attractive points of the Sistine Chapel of Pompeii: “So there is this mixture: nature, architecture, art. But it’s also a story about the social life of Pompeian society and, indeed, of the Roman world at this stage in history.”
The restoration works of the Vetti house consisted of the implementation of paraffin on the frescoed walls with the aim of preserving them.
