ENGERWITZDORF. Anyone who is surrounded by prams at a young age does not necessarily have to be so impressed that they later make a business out of it. Seen in this light, the story of Peter Doppler is doubly special.
Naturkind GmbH in Engerwitzdorf would not exist if his mother had not run a specialist shop for prams in what was then the tranquil Gallneukirchen in the 1980s – as can be read on the website. But it wasn’t the fascination of the first vehicle a baby is traveling in that gave Doppler an idea. It was the fact that manufacturers migrated to the Far East year after year. The time seemed ripe for a pram from Upper Austria, which should also be healthy and sustainable.
Started 16 years ago
In 2007, the idea became so concrete that Naturkind was born. Since then, prams have been manufactured in Engerwitzdorf together with regional suppliers, in which the babies only come into contact with harmless natural materials.
Work is carried out according to the highest ecological standards, organic cotton, organic sheep’s wool, wood, cork and coconut are processed, and Doppler claims to be an ecological pioneer in this field for himself and his team. The sustainable pram from the only Austrian manufacturer now inspires families from all over Europe. Each stroller is real hand work. The products are constantly being further developed.
A parents’ council tests the strollers and suggests improvements. Numerous suggestions also come from the seven employees. The mothers among them contribute their own experiences in handling the stroller. This also makes the Engerwitzdorf company a case for the Feronia sustainability award.
