At today’s Gugl Indoor, however, the 26-year-old will dare to make a detour to the 800 meters, which is unusual for her.
The athlete from the TGW Zehnkampf-Union hopes that the extra laps will give her stamina for the remaining races of the season and an increase in her best time of 2:09.92 minutes. “It dates from eight years ago, when I last ran the 800 meters – also at the Gugl Indoor -” says Gogl-Walli, who adds with a smile: “I’m assuming that I’m in better shape now am.”
She finds it less to smile that the promised pacemaker for the race does not exist after all. Especially over the 800 meters, the battles for positions and the race tactics come into play more, which is why a “locomotive” to help the race along would have been useful. “I’m still looking forward to the race”, Gogl-Walli doesn’t let that take away her confidence.
