Another case of poultry influenza (H5N1) was found in a duck farm in the district of Braunau in Upper Austria. The company kept around 3,000 ducks, some of which have already died. The rest are killed by official order. A protection zone with a radius of three kilometers will be set up around the affected farm, in which all poultry holdings will be checked by the official veterinarian, reported state veterinary director Thomas Hain on Wednesday. In Upper Austria, bird flu has already been detected this year in private households in the districts of Braunau and Linz-Land as well as in a farm in the Wels-Land district. Hain emphasized that avian influenza poses no danger to humans and is not transmitted via food.
