Moist air from the North Atlantic will bring more snow masses beyond the weekend: it will snow heavily, especially on the north side of the Alps and on the main ridge of the Alps, according to GeoSphere Austria, which has issued a snow warning for Upper Austria. In addition, strong to stormy winds increase the danger.
According to meteorologist Josef Haslhofer, the districts of Steyr Land, Kirchdorf, Gmunden and Vöcklabruck are particularly affected: from about 600 meters above sea level, there is a high risk of danger due to the heavy snowfall and wind warning level orange. GeoSphere Austria warns of smaller avalanches on neuralgic traffic routes and roof avalanches, increased risk of accidents on snowy and snowy or snow-blown roads, poor passability, especially higher roads and mountain passes. In addition, there could be obstacles to rail and air traffic. The new wet snow masses also increase the risk of snow breakage in trees – breaking branches could injure people or damage power lines.
