New Zealand made the Covid-19 vaccine mandatory for a large sector of the population

The date established as the deadline to be vaccinated will be December, although at the moment they did not specify the consequences of not complying with the measure.

In this sense, Hipkins remarked that most of these workers have already been immunized, but it is still a “necessary” measure to ensure that all are. “We cannot leave anything to chance and we are making it mandatory,” he said, according to the Stuff news portal.

Specifically, health personnel who carry out “high risk” work will be required to be vaccinated.

This includes all healthcare workers in places where vulnerable people are treated, such as hospitals, as well as doctors, primary care, pharmacists and nurses, among others.

The measure will also apply to the private health sector, which includes staff working in nursing homes.

As for the education sector, Hipkins added that they will also have to have a vaccination record for students.

“It is not an easy decision, but we need people who work with vulnerable communities that have not yet been vaccinated to take this additional step,” explained the country’s Health Officer.

In total, more than 2.3 million people in New Zealand received two doses of the inoculation, representing almost 55% of the population.
