Doctor, how can I lose weight?

Sweets should only be enjoyed seldom.

It’s cold and foggy outside, but sweets are tempting in the warm room inside. Who could resist that? Enjoyment makes the pointer on the scales jump mercilessly.

The days are getting longer again and many are now thinking about spring and the bikini figure. According to the latest findings, small but feasible changes make sense: Insulin is the key hormone, it is produced in the pancreas in highly sensitive Langerhans cells and ensures that an elevated blood sugar level is quickly lowered again in order to avoid inflammation and oxidative stress. Now, when you eat carbohydrates, which pass quickly into the blood, insulin shoots up and stores the glucose and fructose (both together in table sugar) in the liver, muscles and, of course, fat cells. Under the influence of insulin, the way into the fat cells is also a one-way street, the way back – i.e. fat reduction – is blocked.

Large-scale studies from various renowned US universities recommend two to a maximum of three meals a day to avoid blood sugar spikes.

The decisive factor is not to start with the bread that is usually already available or even with a beer, but with foods rich in fiber – such as salad or, as is common in many cultures, beforehand with a glass of water with a dash of vinegar in it. This slows down carbohydrate absorption and calms the sugar and insulin curves.

Within an hour of eating, you should take a 20-minute digestive walk to utilize the energy from the carbohydrates before they are stored in the liver, muscles, or even fat cells.

According to the available research results, it is not a priority to count calories, but to cheat overweight by taking hormones into account.

Since the highly complex topic of “weight loss” can be approached in different ways, this should only be used as a guide. There are so many factors that come into play when it comes to weight loss, from genetics to the thyroid, that I recommend checking with your doctor who knows you better. Maybe he has a very individual method ready for you, with which you will soon achieve your longed-for bikini figure again.
