The health minister also wants to use the working conditions to get a grip on the fact that doctors now prefer to go to private practices instead of statutory health insurance companies.

He also sees a need for action in the primary care centers and outpatient clinics in hospitals, in preventive and aftercare, at the interface between old people’s or nursing homes and the hospitals, as well as in the personnel situation. Due to the financial equalization currently being negotiated, he currently sees a time window open for this.

He received “a lot of encouragement” for his recent criticism of the medical association, said Rauch, “because many in the system know how it works”. There is a shortage of medical care, and he wants to end it. “I’m working on that because I’m the patient’s representative,” said Rauch.
With regard to the expiry of the pandemic measures, the Minister of Health is sticking to the government’s timetable. The demand by the Vorarlberg ÖVP governor Markus Wallner for an immediate end to the mask requirement in hospitals or homes will not be met. “No, because we have thought it through very carefully,” he emphasized. “There will be a proper assessment procedure because we also have to go back to processes in Parliament that are the way they are democratically intended.”
