Indian chiefs and squaws, one or the other sheikh, many an Aladdin, a number of gypsies and Indian women were to be found on the streets and at festivals alongside ladybugs, sunflowers and the like in the past few years during the carnival season. However, disguises like these are sometimes heatedly discussed, especially after a shitstorm against Winnetou books last year, as racist, colonialist and fueling prejudices. Many kindergartens are already asking parents not to dress their offspring in such costumes.
