In just over four months, one of the most important contemporary art festivals in Austria will start in the Lower Mühlviertel with the Festival of the Regions. From June 23rd to July 2nd, the Summerauerbahn between Linz and Horní Dvorˇisˇteˇ will be a festival region under the title “Höchste Eisenbahn” (Highest Railway) with hopefully quite a few regional creative sprinklings.
Highest Railway
In terms of content, the connection between artistic positions and current social issues runs as a common thread through the entire dramaturgy during the ten days of the festival: from studios to exhibitions in old train stations and waiting rooms to multimedia performances along the Summerauerbahn.
As the festival management announced on Monday, more than 100 artists will take part in the 2023 Festival of Regions. For example, Isa Schieche invites you to examine traditional gender roles. In her performance, Asli Kislal not only connects young with old, but also opens perspectives on migrant narrative styles. Antoine Turillon and Seth Weiner deal artistically with Nazi history at the Lungitz train station. Tom Bogaert bridges the gap between current issues and those values contained in Catholic symbolism. In cooperation with artists from the Czech Republic and Austria, Ursula Maria Probst is looking for new impulses for social change. The Singaporean artist anGie seah, on the other hand, puts the unspeakable into words with an inclusive singing and moving choir.
Help shape the festival
The remaining time until the start of the festival will be used to give the program even more social breadth. This should take place via various workshop formats and projects with public participation, which will take place from March.
30 years festival
The international festival has been held every two years since 1993. This year’s festival with the main theme “highest railway” is the 16th edition. Between Linz and Dolni Dvoriste, more than 30 current works of art will be presented, performed or exhibited by around 100 artists from June 23rd to July 2nd. A dense and exciting program is guaranteed. More at www.fdr.at
