If you keep your apartment or house warm with a night storage heater, you now get a kind of electricity price brake from Energie AG: Up to a consumption of 2900 kilowatt hours, the electricity price is capped at ten cents per kilowatt hour, the company announced on Tuesday. This corresponds to a support of up to 500 euros per year. Customers will be informed in writing about the discounts that will run until June 30, 2024; processing will be automatic.

As reported by the OÖ Nachrichten, many heat pump operators who only have one metering point (for household and heat pump electricity) feel “punished” because they have switched to heat pumps but are suffering from the increased electricity prices due to the high electricity consumption. A photovoltaic system is often also operated at this metering point.

Energie AG is now crediting these customers with a bonus of EUR 500. In order to get these, they have to fill out a questionnaire on the website energieag.at. They want to “develop new offers in a very targeted manner” and need “as much information as possible about their consumption behavior,” says Klaus Dorninger, Managing Director of Energie AG Vertriebs.

Richard Freimüller, President of Wärmepumpe Austria, says to the OÖ Nachrichten that it is a “great thing”. The association’s appeals were slowly paying off. “But we also insist on reintroducing our own heat pump tariff.” This will also be an issue at the energy saving fair in Wels at the beginning of March.
