In 2013, ten years ago, the Innviertel beer march was revived. Due to the corona pandemic, the popular event in the Innviertel beer region has only been able to take place in a very “anti-foam” way to take place. “This year, a beer march like before the pandemic is finally possible again, including larger events”says Andrea Eckerstorfer, the project manager of the Innviertel beer region – an association of ten breweries, innkeepers and tourism associations.
It starts on March 1st with the official opening in the Braugasthof Vitzthum in Uttendorf, in the following days dozens of events will follow across the Innviertel, including brewery tours, an Innviertel award-winning chefs event on March 9th in the Fill Future Dome in Gurten or a live -Beer tasting on TV.

Yesterday’s presentation of the program took place at the Woigartlbräu in Schalchen, the youngest brewery member in the beer region. “I can still remember my first session in 2019. That was at the Wurmhöringer private brewery in Altheim. I was pretty nervous, after all there were only experienced brewers present and I hadn’t even really finished my little brewery yet. Five minutes later I was integrated, it felt as if I had been there forever”, says Alexander Schiemer from Woigartlbräu. 2017 is the trained cook “came to the beer”. In Oberharlochen he runs a cozy lounge, a small brewery and an outdoor dining area. In addition to an unfiltered “cellar beer” he also brews a light and dark wheat beer.
The member companies of the beer region are satisfied with the development since the establishment in 2011. “We were a bit skeptical, but that has long since subsided”says Wolfgang Vitzthum from the private brewery of the same name (Uttendorfer Bier).
“At the very beginning, we often heard the question what this beer region is supposed to be good for”, says project manager Eckerstorfer. But this resistance had long since subsided.

The Beer March
The Beer March has its origins in a time when there were no cooling facilities for the production and storage of beer. The beers were brewed more heavily in March and stored in deep, ice-lined cellars throughout the summer. The last strong brew before “summer slump” people celebrated extensively back then, and the Beer March was born.
