It is a widespread myth that “Generation Z” lost heart because of this and would sink into lethargy: as the exclusive 2023 youth study by “Der Pragmaticus” shows, young people are happier, more confident and braver than they thought.
In the representative survey – carried out by the Institute for Youth Culture Research – 2500 young adults from Germany, Austria and Switzerland aged 16 to 29 were asked about their expectations for the future. At the same time, young people talked about their worldview in focus groups.
A total of 83 percent of young people in Austria are very or fairly satisfied with their lives (D 81 percent, CH 86 percent). Career opportunities are also rated positively: 64 percent of young Austrians are certain that their professional dreams will come true (D 63 percent, CH 69 percent). Many expect to have it as good or better than their parents one day (Austria 58 percent, Germany 62 percent, Switzerland 66 percent).
