Vorarlberg’s ÖVP only presented the realignment of the Economic Association after tax offenses on Tuesday, and now the Vorarlberg Senior Citizens’ Association is also being criticized for tax omissions.
For years, neither taxes on income from senior trips nor on advertising sales in the in-house magazine are said to have been paid, as “Standard” and “ZIB2” reported. Vorarlberg’s senior citizens’ association – the VP emphasizes that it is the association, not the sub-organization of the same name – submitted voluntary disclosures in August 2022 and has to pay up to 200,000 euros.
For example, EUR 50,000 in advertising tax was not paid for advertisements in the quarterly magazine. In addition, since 1996, the Senior Citizens’ Association has paid its long-standing state manager premiums for life insurance, but has not paid the 15,000 euros in wage tax due for this. The Seniors’ Association has already paid for the supplementary payment on both counts.
Senior citizens’ trips, which the Senior Citizens’ Association offered and co-organised, make up the main part of the tax levy. Since 2012, sales tax of 131,000 euros and 3,000 euros of corporate income tax would have been due for the income from this. The Seniors’ Association has appealed against this. In the case of group trips, it was assumed “that we, as a non-profit association, do not have to pay any corporate income tax or sales tax,” says Vorarlberg’s Senior Citizens’ Association Chairman Werner Huber.
Green MP Nina Tomaselli was reminded of the Vorarlberg Economic Association cause. On the one hand, millions are made with advertisements and travel arrangements, on the other hand, no taxes are paid. Vorarlberg’s Neos club chairwoman Sabine Scheffknecht also saw parallels. “Obviously nobody in the ÖVP knows how to pay taxes correctly.”
