“Thank the Lord that nothing happened,” said head of organization Bernhard Zauner to the ORF after the incident.
After all, several helpers had just been on the porch of the ski jump. They were all able to get to safety in time.
How could the tracking device come loose in the first place? According to Zauner, the track tiller did not go all the way back up, which is why the fastening cable sagged slackly. “When the track tiller started to roll, the force generated by the around 500-kilo machine ripped the cable from its anchorage,” explains Zauner.
The track is still ready for the first women’s World Cup competition on Friday. The second competition follows on Saturday.
