Wiener Austria is ailing, not just financially. Jurgen Werner, official sports director since Thursday, is optimistic about the challenges. The license documents must be submitted to the league on March 3rd, in April the right to play for the coming season will be issued. Loud Werner Of course things won’t run “smoothly”, but Gerhard Krisch, also a member of the Management Board, and his team would work day and night “so that we can manage it”: “It’s about how we can compete next year. I’m very optimistic that we’ll succeed.”
The noisy change of coach in the winter from fan favorite Manfred Schmid to Michael Wimmer recently caused unrest in those close to the club. “Many fans mourn Schmid, we have to win them back first,” explainedWerner. The 61-year-old had talks with the fan leaders and decided for himself that the cause was over for him. “There is enough to do, you can only convince with work,” said Werner. “We have an ambitious task ahead of us, are already working on the team for next year and have the license in front of our noses.”
Wimmer fitted the requirement profile perfectly
The distribution of tasks with sports director Manuel Ortlechner, whose contract expires in the summer, is now clear. Ortlechner takes care of the entire sporting area including Young Violets, women’s department and academy in addition to the fighting team. “I can contribute my experience and contacts to the squad,” added Werner. As a board member, however, you have other tasks and other problems to solve.
Only an exact requirements profile was created last. “We want to make it uniform from the academy to the fighting team. And educate coaches for us, who can be seamlessly transferred to the fighting team, just like we intend to do with players,” explained Werner his plan. Neo-coach Wimmer, who will make his debut against Klagenfurt on Sunday, fit the profile “exactly”.
