FOREST FIRES in CHILE: The extinction tasks of the FIREFIGHTERS continue
“Probably, the first fortnight of March will see the total extinction of the sources of fire”pointed out the minister spokesperson for La Moneda, Camila Vallejo.
“The important thing now, above all things, is to have all the capabilities to control the sources of fire, so that they do not continue to expand,” he added.
“Then comes the process of extinction that implies efforts by brigade members so that they are not reactivated, but I am not going to go into detail about that because it is up to specialized organizations,” he said.
The spokeswoman for La Moneda remarked that “there is an institution that makes a daily evaluation of the dynamics of the fires, how they evolve, the deployment of teams and brigade members.”
“The call to civil society is that we be responsible, that we do not carry out any type of activity that could cause the start of a fire, because we know the consequences they have,” he closed.
Help from the European Union
With respect to EU aid, a note from the European External Action Service (responsible for the bloc’s diplomacy) pointed out that these are experts from Portugal, Spain and France in response to a Chilean request for assistance.
The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said in a statement that “European solidarity has no limits. We are together with Chile at this time of enormous needs and we are proud of the response efforts” to the fires, the AFP agency.
