Numerous groups marched through the various districts of the Sugar Loaf metropolis at the street carnival on Saturday, as was seen on television. Parades of 80 blocos, as the samba groups are called, were announced for the weekend.
It is the first official street carnival in Rio de Janeiro since the beginning of the corona pandemic. Next Friday the processions of the best samba schools will begin in the Sambadrome. The municipal tourism agency Riotur expects up to 5.5 million carnival fans at the biggest party in the world.
