They had tried to descend on their own, but the injuries did not allow it: Two hikers – a 59-year-old from Wels and a 41-year-old from Linz – set off on Saturday around 9 a.m. on the marked path for a tour of the Erlakogel . The route was well known to the 41-year-old. After reaching the summit around 1 p.m., after a short rest, they head back to the valley via the well-known path. The man from Linz fell so unluckily that he suffered bruises and strains. The two men still tried to climb down, but both fell several times. Moving on was unthinkable, they alerted the rescue services.
Despite the onset of dusk, the emergency doctor helicopter “Martin 3” was able to take off. The men were rescued from their predicament by rope and taken to the Salzkammergut Clinic in Gmunden. The Ebensee mountain rescue team was deployed with twelve people and the alpine police with two officers.
