“You fulfilled your mission as a member of the Mexican delegation in the search and rescue of our brothers in Turkey. Thank you for your heroic work,” reported the Secretary of National Defense this Sunday.

It is worth noting that the Government of Mexico sent personnel from the Mexican Army, Red Cross, Navy, Moles and pairs canines to collaborate and assist in the search and rescue of trapped people.

Likewise, among the dogs that traveled to Turkey, in addition to Proteo, there’s Rex, July from the Red Cross; Timba, from Sedena and Ecko from Semarwhich have training in search of people.

For their part, they are also Orly and Balam, sons of Athos, a Red Cross dog who was poisoned in 2021 along with his partner Tango.

On the other hand, the humanitarian chief of the UN, Martin Griffithsassured the Sky News chain that the number of victims could still increase considerably.

“It’s really hard to estimate very accurately, because you have to get under the rubble, but I’m sure it’s going to double or more,” Griffiths said.

The latest balances place the death toll from the earthquake, the deadliest in the region since 1939, at 28,191 people (24,617 in Turkey and 3,574 in Syria).
