In the case of two larger fires, numerous fire brigades were required at the weekend. On Friday afternoon, a fire broke out in an agricultural property in Schlierbach (Kirchdorf district). The fire also spread from an older building to a stable building. Both properties were severely damaged by the fire. A total of nine fire departments with 180 firefighters were deployed to extinguish the fire. Luckily no one was injured. Already on Saturday morning, officials from the State Criminal Police Office of Upper Austria and a fire expert from the BVS Upper Austria were investigating the cause of the fire in the damaged buildings. It was determined that the fire was most likely caused by a plastic bucket placed too close to the kitchen stove. After the stove was heated in the absence of the owner and the outbreak of fire was only noticed after his return, an attempt to extinguish it was no longer possible. The property suffered property damage in the six-digit range.
The cause of the fire that broke out on the balcony or terrace of an apartment building in Sankt Martin im Innkreis on Saturday night is still unknown. A resident of the building was awakened from sleep by an explosive bang – apparently by a broken window .
At that point, there was already heavy smoke in the apartment. The man woke up the rest of the residents, after which everyone was able to exit the building unharmed through the smoke-free staircase. The fire has since spread to the attic. However, the fire was brought under control by the deployment of six fire brigades with around 70 men.
