A 22-year-old Romanian from the Oberwart district in Burgenland was driving his car from Steyrermühl towards Laakirchen (Gmunden district) early on Saturday evening. A 36-year-old compatriot was also in the car with him. According to witness statements, the Romanian suddenly got into the opposite lane with his car on the main road in the municipality of Laakirchen and collided with the oncoming car of a 38-year-old Syrian citizen from the Vöcklabruck district, who was traveling with a 35-year-old compatriot.

Due to the collision, the 22-year-old’s car was rotated 180 degrees on its own axis and finally crashed into a steel railing on the edge of the oncoming lane. The 38-year-old’s car touched a sidewalk edge and stopped on the right-hand side of the road.

In the accident, all car occupants were injured to an undetermined degree, but were able to free themselves from their vehicles and were taken to the Salzkammergut Klinikum Vöcklabruck after first aid. 20 comrades from the Steyrermühl company fire brigade supported the executive with a pilot service, set up fire protection, tied up the leaked liquids and cleaned the road from the vehicle parts. To support the vehicle recovery, the operations management alerted the FF Lindach. The vehicle standing on the concrete wall was then removed with their crane. The B144 was closed to all vehicle traffic for about an hour. A local diversion has been set up.
