It’s been six days since two workers from Carinthia died in a rock fall in the Unterhimmel district of Steyr. Their bodies have still not been recovered. The dangerous situation is too acute, rocks could still fall down.
In a crisis meeting between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. today, further action will be discussed. The basis for this are the results of yesterday’s sounding. A small excavator was fixed at the scene of the accident with a crane. This excavator, which comes from a company in the Steyr area, was used to check whether the rock outcrop could be removed. Meticulous securing of the site is also necessary for this. The new findings should be incorporated into today’s deliberations. If protection and removal are possible, the bodies of the two men can also be recovered promptly. As reported, a 400 cubic meter boulder came loose during safety work and killed the two workers of a special company.
