At the general assembly of the GC Wels in the Sipbachzeller Zirbenschlössl last week, the board was elected. Because President Walter Grillenberger and a large part of his team no longer ran, a personnel reorganization was necessary. The successor went smoothly. The new President Franz Brutter and his crew received more than 93 percent of the valid votes. 200 members voted.
The new board stands for the opening of the association. The GC Wels is a partner of the “MEHR.grün” cooperation, an association of six golf clubs in central Upper Austria. As a club member, you have the opportunity, for a small fee, not only to play golf in your home club, but also on five other courses at no additional cost. The initiative was not without controversy internally. Ultimately, the majority voted to expand the offer.
In his inaugural speech, the former AK branch manager in Eferding emphasized the commitment of his predecessors, who renovated the clubhouse and pushed ahead with conversion and improvement work on the golf course: “Nevertheless, we will focus on making our golf course in Weißkirchen even more attractive for club members and guests and continue to improve,” promised Brutter.
Another concern of the new board is the promotion of young talent. Trial golf for children is also planned, as is the expansion of the previously free children’s and youth training with golf pros David Mallison and Mark van Haagen.
The number of members is to be increased further. The Welser Golf Club currently has 737 members. The youngest is only four years old, the oldest still active golfer is 92 years old.
At the General Assembly, the new board of directors announced their desire to offer golfers in Wels the best possible conditions. “It’s also about promoting the community for me. Our members should spend relaxing and exciting hours with friends, acquaintances and like-minded people on the golf course and then visit the so-called 19th hole, meaning our golf restaurant,” says Brutter.
