Last week is the second highest at slaughter since June 2022 – the first was the week from December 10 to 17 that registered 53,330 heads – and the third week with more than 50,000 animals slaughtered since June of last year. Meanwhile, the slaughter of steers was the highest since May 2022, according to the specialized media Blasina y Asociados.
What happened the first weeks of 2023?
The first month of the year closed with 150,662 slaughtered heads which, if compared with the year 2022, which represents 28% less and was the lowest figure since July of last year where 149,300 heads were slaughtered. Within the categories, the one that suffered the greatest loss was that of cows with 41.5% less – equivalent to 34,591 fewer animals.
So far this year, the total number of heads slaughtered was 186,490 cattle, reflecting a drop of 25% compared to 2022 and 9.5% less than in the previous year. As for the categories, that of steers fell by 15% compared to 2022 but represented a 3% rise to the detriment of 2021.
