The initiative, which has been half approved by the Senate and is resisted in the lower house by the partner of the government coalition Town meetingwould leave in the hands of the BPS the tool with which the government of Luis Lacalle Pou hopes to improve the lowest pensions.
According to the formula managed by the Executive, up to half of the retirees who earn the minimum (up to 42,000 pesos) will receive higher pensions than the current ones.
In the first year of application, the supplement, which will be 14,000 pesos, would cost the State about 40 million dollars, but it would rise to 600 million dollars in 2050 until reaching the ceiling of 780 million dollars twenty years later.
