In the area where the B129, Bahnhofstraße and Linzer Lokalbahn (LILO) crossed, an excavator, which was being transported on a truck, collided with the overhead line of the LILO, which was unfavorable but fortunately ended lightly. “The overhead line was damaged with the excavator and partially torn down,” reported the deputy commander of the Waizenkirchen fire brigade, Alexander Scheiterbauer, to nachrichten.at. “The line hung over the excavator.” The truck driver had the presence of mind not to leave his vehicle but to wait for help.
The arriving helpers – in addition to 13 men from FF Waizenkirchen from the police, rescue service, road maintenance department and railway operator “Stern & Hafferl” to the local electrician – quickly secured the accident site because it was not clear whether there was still a danger. The automatic switch-off worked, however, and the line was no longer live, says “Stern & Hafferl” managing director Günter Neumann. Rail replacement traffic for the LILO has been set up – “but the repair work will probably last until tomorrow evening,” says the managing director. The damage is not inconsiderable – “Unfortunately, something like this happens from time to time, but not that often to this extent.”
