The tour will take place over the next three weeks and will cover the urban areas of the Uruguay. This will be done with the objective of verifying maps, identifying possible changes in addresses, with the objective of buying 1.4 million private addresses that the database of the National Statistics Institute (INE).
“It is a job mostly external to the houses, where addresses are identified with the counters of the joint venture”, explained the director of the INE, Diego Aboal. In addition, the chief explained that it is not necessary to make contact with the members of the homes since the verification will be done through UTE smart meters, except that these are not visible and it is necessary to verify data.
On the other hand, Aboal highlighted the importance of developing the pre-census as it will provide an estimate of the number of homes and addresses that exist in the urban area and will serve to organize work, such as the number of census takers needed to carry out one of the largest operations that a country has.
What to take into account in the precensus?
From the 2023 Census entourage, they launched a special statement aimed at avoiding possible fraud when carrying out the operation. In the first place, Aboal explained that it will not be necessary for people to receive the precensus since the objective is to verify the address. However, if you can do so, you should consult with a member of the household.
This is why the statement establishes what things must be taken into account when attending a precensus. From the government they established that the precensistas will have a hat, official vest and an enabling digital card. Faced with this, they recommend that the population require the presentation of these identifications before providing information. Also, you can verify the identities of the pre-census takers on their website.
When does the census start?
The INA chief reported that the census will start in april and the population will have the possibility of taking a self-census through digital devices. This will allow the census taker to speed up his work since he will only ask the census taker for a code indicating that the form was completed satisfactorily. Otherwise, in April there will be between 6,000 and 7,000 census takers traveling throughout the Uruguayan territory.
On the other hand, Aboal stressed the importance of this information, which is key to the design and orientation of public policies, but which is also useful for private actions. In addition, he announced that the most expected information is about the immigrants since there is no quality information on this part of the population, such as the number, origin, and living and working conditions.
