A photovoltaic system on the roof, a wall box for the electric car in the garage, converting the heating to non-fossil energy sources: there are many different ways of redesigning a single-family home in terms of energy. The situation in multi-party houses is quite different. On the one hand, because, for example, PV systems on old roofs are not possible due to static conditions. On the other hand, because high traffic volumes, narrow gateways and narrow courtyards make it difficult to convert buildings in inner-city locations.

With its energy balconies, the company Innovametall, based in Freistadt and Niederkappel, shows one way in which solar power plants can still be used when renovating old buildings. These are completely prefabricated in Freistadt and delivered to the renovation project. The assembly of a balcony takes a maximum of one hour. Once put into operation, it produces approximately the amount of energy that is required in the apartment behind it – calculated for a single household. Innovametall implemented the first projects with “sybkon” energy balconies in four residential complexes in Schwanenstadt. Here, the electricity generated from the balcony is currently being fed into the municipal power grid. “For the next projects, we are in talks with our clients about using all of the electricity generated in the building itself,” says Innovametall Managing Director Klaus Pichlbauer.

The company has developed and implemented a solution for its new company headquarters in the “Gluatnest” at the entrance to Freistadt: Here, a 2.3 MWp photovoltaic system on the roof and facade generates solar power. An energy and mobility management system takes over the control between power generators and consumers and manages access and mobility offers. Photovoltaic electricity is used for heating, water heating, general lighting, lift operation and charging e-cars and e-bikes. Surplus solar power during the day is stored in the company electric cars. Bidirectional charging points provide the electricity for production operations at times when there is no PV yield.

With these innovations, Innovametall is at the start of the “Feronia” sustainability award, which is advertised by OÖ Nachrichten and Oberbank, in the “Sustainable Products and Services” category. (live)
