It is a little over half an hour’s drive from Braunau to the small Lower Bavarian municipality of Geratskirchen with 850 inhabitants. On July 22, 2021, the place in the district of Rottal-Inn became the scene of a terrible crime that has been investigating since then – the OÖN have reported. Tonight, the investigators are hoping for a broadcast on the ZDF program “Case number XY” to information from the public.
One thing is certain: a 39-year-old man was found dead by his partner on a farm in Geratskirchen. The victim was literally executed with a headshot from a shotgun. Shortly after the crime, the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office offered a reward of 10,000 euros for relevant information that led to the investigation of the crime – this is still valid today.
The traces of the investigators also led to the Innviertel, as OÖN reported exclusively a year ago. A 75-year-old pensioner from the Ried district was targeted by the investigators. A house search was conducted and a DNA sample was taken. Jealousy was used as a possible motive. The pensioner denied any connection to the crime from the start. At the time, the investigations focused on shotguns, which were not found during the search measures in the Innviertel, they later turned up at another location, but could be ruled out as murder weapons, as the Landshut public prosecutor announced in the summer of 2022.
It was clear to the investigators that the pensioner from the Ried district was no longer a suspect.
A case for “XY-unsolved”
“The extensive investigations by the Passau Criminal Police Inspectorate and the relevant Landshut public prosecutor’s office have not yet produced any concrete indications of a possible suspect”according to the press office of the police headquarters in Lower Bavaria.
With the broadcast of the unsolved murder case this evening (8:15 p.m.) on the ZDF program Aktenzeichen, the investigators are finally hoping for a breakthrough in order to be able to clarify the case.
