“Together we have brought good solutions to the world,” was the message from the traffic officer, Deputy Mayor Martin Hajart (VP) at today’s press conference, with a view to the Neue Heimat traffic concept.
As reported, a citizen participation process was started together with the planning office Rosniak & Partner, in which the citizens had the opportunity to contribute their ideas, suggestions and criticism.
The starting position was not that easy, said Hajart. Recently there had been some excitement about a residential project between Flötzerweg and Weißdornweg, which is now under construction. The access to the underground car park had caused resentment in the specially founded citizens’ initiative.
Combined footpath and cycle path in the Bäckermühlweg
Said road sections are now also part of the further planning in the district. A compromise solution must be found here, said Roman Minke, head of urban mobility planning. It is planned to rearrange the individual road sections in such a way that driving through in certain areas is prevented.
In any case, there should be better rides for cyclists in the Bäckermühlweg in the future. The footpath there is to be expanded into a combined footpath and cycle path, which is already anchored in this year’s construction program, according to Hajart. The costs are around 350,000 euros, the implementation is planned for summer. With this project, the deputy mayor wants to show the residents “that we take seriously what we have worked out together”. It is also in the room to extend this new connection beyond the city limits of Linz, there have already been initial talks with the city of Leonding, said Minke.
The situation is different for other projects, the city of Linz alone can do little or nothing here. The feasibility and the implementation period are therefore currently completely open for some measures.
One example of this is the Wegscheid train station, which, as Hajart puts it, “lives a wallflower existence”.
Basically there is a top connection here, on the one hand there is a problem with the clock, on the other hand with the appearance (keyword parking spaces). The city has already emphasized its desire for modernization with a resolution to the ÖBB.
District bus line in planning
The situation is similar with the planned district bus line, here it is important to get Linz Linien on board. The plans are already underway, it said today.
Urban development director Hans-Martin Neumann underlined the great value of the results obtained from the citizen participation process and announced further such projects. For example, it is planned to start a cooperative process for the area along Salzburger Straße.
