Ancap finishes off the iconic site of the old station

In the building next to the “old station”, which will remain intact, the Automobile Museum, which is maintained from the efforts of the partners and operates without profit. In it are the emblematic cars that made history in Uruguay and in the world, so it is an attractive proposal to visit in Punta del Este.

This building is the one that will be auctioned. It is a space of 1,637 square meters for which the Ancap administration does not have a specific use, for which its auction was decided, according to Surtidores.

Regarding the usufruct by the museum, from Ancap they clarified that the loan signed with the Automobile Club of Uruguay (ACU) It is “precarious” since the association’s board of directors knew that the oil company could dispose of the property at any time.

The story of the “old station”

Ancap and the Municipality of Maldonado (IDM) signed a 99-year loan agreement in 2017 for the usufruct by the Mayor of Punta del Este of the property, whose iconic building dates back to the times of the Second World War and it is a national heritage since the year 2000, so it will remain intact.

Until 2006 it functioned as an Ancap service station. Then it remained closed until 2017, when the precarious loan was signed with the IDM and the ACU to set up the Automobile Museum on the adjoining land.

According to the Punta del Este press, the auction of this property caused interest among real estate entrepreneurs in Punta del Este at a time when the city is experiencing a boom in the construction of towers and shopping centers.
