BMW is no slouch. Five years after the market launch of the third X5 generation, the Munich-based company is now putting a facelift version in pole position – with far-reaching changes to design and technology. All this also applies to the coupe X6.

The designers flattened the LED headlights by 35 millimeters and shaped the daytime running lights as arrows, which also act as indicators. Matrix LED headlights with cornering lights and anti-dazzle high beam are optional. New to the range is the Kidney Iconic Glow with waterfall lighting.

X6: M sports package as standard

The X6 is now delivered with the M Sport package as standard. New to the X5/X6 range is the M Sport package Pro with new colors Marina Bay Blue metallic (X5 M60i xDrive) and Isle of Man Green metallic (X6 M60i xDrive). All models are available in the variants Blue Ridge Mountain metallic, Brooklyn Gray metallic, Skyscraper Gray metallic and Frozen Pure Gray metallic as well as around 40 individual BMW special paint finishes.

The curved display, along with the latest generation of the iDrive operating system, is finding its way into the facelift models. It consists of a 12.3-inch information display behind the steering wheel and a control display with a screen diagonal of 14.9 inches under a shared glass surface. The list of special equipment now includes the comfort package with surface heating and a thermal function for the cup holders, the illuminated panorama glass roof, glass applications for controls and a “Bowers & Wilkins” sound system. The front collision warning now also warns of cyclists and pedestrians when turning.

The starting price for the basic model X5 xDrive40i is 99,550 euros, for the diesel version X5 xDrive30d at 98,350 euros. The plug-in is available from 93,800 euros.

X5/X6: The engines

The V8 and straight-six (gasoline/diesel) have all been paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system that adds 12 horsepower. The plug-in hybrid drive now delivers 490 hp (+96 hp) or 700 Nm (+100 Nm). The 4.4-liter V8 generates 530 hp or 750 Nm, the 3.0-liter six-cylinder 380 hp (+47 hp) or 520 Nm (+70 Nm). The optimized diesel produces 298 hp or 670 Nm.
