Unknown perpetrators stole large amounts of copper sheet from the Schwertberg cemetery. According to the Perg police, the theft may have occurred during the night from Sunday to Monday. Investigators assume that a professional gang specializing in theft of construction site materials was at work. A total of nine large copper sheet elements that served as a cover were torn down from the masonry. Two parts were left behind. The damage caused is considerable, since the prices for scrap metal have risen sharply in the past year.

“The perpetrators must have used a van or trailer to remove their loot. Since there is otherwise no construction work in the Friedhofstraße area, someone from the population may have seen something. We’re thankful for every lead,” says Schwertberg’s mayor, Max Oberleitner, hoping for relevant information from the public. Pastor Leonard Ozougwu was also stunned by the theft at the cemetery and also asks residents in the Friedhofstraße area to keep their eyes open.
