On Sunday the time has come, the first game in the new Raiffeisen Arena takes place. The soft opening game is played by the LASK women’s team against SU Geretsberg. Around 2000 visitors are expected for this game, the forecasts are generally higher. According to expectations, between 12,000 and 15,000 spectators could make their way to the Gugl and the stadium for league games of the men’s team.
Due to the expected lower number of visitors at the women’s game, the responsible traffic department of the city has not yet ordered any additional traffic measures. However, today she sent out information about what the traffic calming measures will look like for games with a higher number of visitors.
No stopping and bus lane
In order to ensure safety and the smooth flow of traffic on match days despite the increased volume of traffic, no stopping areas are the means of choice. A bus lane in the area of Ziegeleistrasse from Bergschlösslpark to Ziegeleistrasse 72 is also being decreed to make public transport faster and more attractive. These measures apply three hours before, during and one hour after the respective games.
The traffic signs for no stopping and the bus lane are permanently set up with additional signs to be inscribed. The boards will then be labeled with the appropriate times in good time – at least 48 hours before a measure takes effect – according to the city’s announcement today.
Appeal to read the boards carefully
All road users are recommended to pay attention to the signs on the day of the game, otherwise there is a risk of being towed away. When the stopping bans and the bus lane are in place, you will be asked to use the remaining long-term parking spaces. Residents with a resident parking card are advised to use parking spaces in the short-term parking zones.
If a board is not labeled, it is expressly not valid, according to the city embassy. Visitors should also not be confused by the permanent floor markings for the bus lanes, which should also only be observed if the bus lane signs are labeled accordingly.
On match days, stopping restrictions apply in the following streets: If the bus lane is in force on Ziegeleistraße, there is a parking ban on the south side so that oncoming traffic remains possible despite the bus lane. In the Stockbauernstraße and on the Gugl, stopping bans are also necessary for buses and emergency vehicles to avoid traffic.
The short-term parking zones on Ziegeleistraße are not temporary, but permanent (north side: Mon – Fri 8am – 6.30pm and Sat 8am – 12pm; south side Mon – Sat 8am – 10pm). Drivers with a resident card are still not allowed to park there in the Billa area.
No free parking at the stadium car park
A notice will also be posted at the Raiffeisen Arena stadium car park that parking is no longer permitted here. According to the announcement, daily and monthly parking rates will be available in the near future. Arena Event GmbH is responsible for parking space management. Vehicles parked illegally will be towed away at the owner’s expense starting Friday, February 17, according to the announcement.
Greens see open questions
The Linz Greens had complained before the city sent out that important questions about the journey were still open. “Up until now, only a vague intensification of the frequency of public transport has been announced and it has been announced that some parking garages are offering cheap ‘match tariffs’. Details about timetables, boarding options and frequency are still unclear. It’s high time to pick up the ball and play the through ball towards transparent information. Otherwise there will sooner or later be an own goal in the form of traffic chaos,” says club chairman Helge Langer.
