“The man has been arrested. That is the information we have now, this person carried out these actions alone, “Police Chief Øyvind Aas told reporters.
“Several people have been injured and several have died,” added Aas, who declined to specify the number of victims.
The attacks took place in “a large area” of Kongsberg, a municipality of around 28,000 people in southeastern Norway, 80 kilometers from Oslo.
Norway’s Justice and Public Security Minister Monica Maeland received updates on the attacks and was closely monitoring the situation, the government said.
At the moment the reasons for the attack are unknown, which occurred at various locations in the city center of Kongsberg.
The police did not give details about the suspect, except that he is a man and that he was taken to the police station in the neighboring city of Drammen.
“We are not looking for other people,” Øyvind Aas said.
The injured were taken to hospitals. At the moment neither his number nor his status is known.
